It all began in 1940

- when Syd Selden embarked on a journey and opened the doors to his own floor-covering store with five employees by his side, and a backroom stocked with rolls of linoleum, blinds and carpeting. During the WWII era, customers were flocking to purchase blackout blinds which helped Selden's thrive through difficult economic times. It wasn't long before Selden's began working on government projects at Fort Lewis, McChord Air Force Base, Bremerton Naval Station, and the Coulee Dam. As the war came to an end and businesses were beginning to shift, Selden’s adjusted inventory to the needs of a post-war age and steadily turned into a full service home furnishings center by 1957.

In 1990 Selden's moved to where it resides currently, adjacent to Interstate 5 in Fife. Since its inception, the Selden's team has grown to more than 100 people, including salespeople, designers, warehouse, and delivery staff. By 2015 Selden’s opened the doors to their second location in Bellevue, Washington and expanded again in January of 2020 with their Olympia showroom.
